On September 23 at 18:00 AEST  The New Zealand Amyloidosis Patient Association warmly invites health care professionals  to join a webinar to help spread amyloidosis awareness.  

The objective of this webinar is to enable healthcare professionals in New Zealand as well as other parts of the world to understand and learn the types and features of amyloidosis disease as well as the development and improvement for the early diagnosis and management of cardiac amyloidosis.

The  panel:

  1. Dr Carol Whelan who assesses patients for possible coronary artery disease, heart failure or valvular heart disease. She is particularly interested in echocardiography including stress echocardiography and transoesophageal echocardiography. She has a special interest in cardiac amyloidosis and her work includes the screening and follow up of patients for this condition at the National Amyloidosis Centre based at the Royal Free Hospital. 
  2. Professor Philip Hawkins was the Head of the National Amyloidosis Centre at the Royal Free Hospital, London until recently and with 717 research works with 33196 citations and 4673 reads, he is one of the few leading authority in the world of Amyloidosis. In 1987 Professor Philip Hawkins, together with Professor Sir Mark Pepys FRS, developed the SAP scan. This is the only existing method for non-invasive diagnosis and comprehensive follow up of amyloidosis in all parts of the body. The NAC is the only place in the world where the SAP scan is routinely available.
  3. Professor Ed Gane was honoured for his innovative contributions to the development of a cure for Hepatitis C. He is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Auckland and Deputy Director and Hepatologist of the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit at Auckland City Hospital. His work at the NZLTU has seen him highly involved in liver transplantation for familial amyloid patients in New Zealand.
